FUTUREFOLK
Future Folk is a retro-futuristic one-man looper band created by Edward Kruse IV, AKA "Cuatro". Born in neon-soaked 1985 and raised in Durango, CO, Cuatro grew up listening to roots reggae with his Dad, playing video games, exploring nature, and teaching himself how to play guitar and electronic keyboards. With influences spanning from punk rock, 80's synth-pop, roots reggae, tribal techno, shamanic chants, dub, the Pixies, Pink Floyd, Ween, Jimi Hendrix, and synthwave, to Reggie Watts, DubFX, Mark Rebillet, and modern electronic Euro/steppers reggae, each performance is a unique blend of bass-heavy grooves mixed with a healthy dose of improvisation, making every show one of a kind.
Cuatro uses a mixture of analog synthesizers, drum machines, guitars, digeridoos, mouth harps, percussion, and live vocals, all tied together with live loopers and the magic of MIDI, which creates what he calls his "SoundShip". Using this SoundShip, every FutureFolk song is performed, recorded, arranged, mixed, layered, and manipulated live, piece by piece in front of the audience to create an engaging, exciting, and adventurous live-looping musical experience.
Cuatro lives on a self-designed/built off-grid homestead in Pagosa, CO, where he powers his "SoundShip" using 100% solar-generated electricity. When he is not flying his Soundship, Cuatro enjoys hiking with his dogs, silversmithing, glassblowing, yoga, skiing, carpentry, milling lumber, cold plunges, and soaking in hot springs. Cuatro is passionate about building community and educating people about how to be more sovereign, self-reliant, and creative. He is a proud "Durangutang", and very grateful to call Pagosa Springs his home!
